Great Barrier Reef Tours, Activities and Things to do | Students

The best time to visit is from June to October when the weather is perfect for outdoor activities and the water visibility is at its best. Visitors during this period can also make the most of the warm waters before stinger season begins, which typically starts in November and lasts until May.

Absolutely! The reef is home to many safe swimming spots, especially on guided tours and within designated areas monitored by lifeguards. When exploring the reef, visitors should always listen to their tour leader’s instructions, follow local guidelines, and pay attention to any signs on or near the beaches.

Most tours depart from coastal towns and cities like Cairns, Port Douglas, and Airlie Beach. At Backpacker Deals, we offer a range of Great Barrier Reef tours that depart from a number of different locations and offer return transport for your convenience.

It’s important to pack essentials like reef-safe sunscreen, a sun hat, swimwear, sunglasses, and a beach towel. On top of these essentials, you won’t want to forget your underwater camera to snap some amazing shots of the reef’s thriving underwater world!
