The former Tamaki Māori Village presents Te Pā Tū, offering an immersive cultural experience that shares Māori knowledge, tradition, customs, and cuisine across a four-hour evening celebration. Feast on Māori song, dance, and divine seasonal food within the sanctuary of towering Tawa trees, blazing bonfires, and forest-formed amphitheatre.

Get collected from your central Rotorua accommodation to start your unforgettable evening at New Zealand’s most awarded cultural attraction, just 15 minutes south of Rotorua. The evening events change and align with the maramataka, the Māori lunar calendar to provide unique summer or winter experiences.

Tū Te Rā - Summer Harvest Celebration

Tū Te Rā is a summer celebration when the sun expresses optimal energy, the days are longer, and light nourishes the natural world. It celebrates abundant harvest and explores concepts, rituals, and stories of ancient Māori warfare and peace. Forest canapes welcome guests with seasonal favourites that may include crispy pork and candied apple encased in kawakawa leaves, abalone, smoked fish and more. Within the forest-formed amphitheatre attention shifts to stories relayed through haka, song and drama, before torchlight guides guests to an al fresco dining space, or dining room when weather is inclement, and a three-course feast with a chef aperitif. The famous hāngī shares a table with Māori fusion dishes developed and curated by celebrated Māori chefs.

Tū Te Ihi - Winter Matariki Celebration

Tū Te Ihi is a winter celebration that extends across the cooler months when the Matariki cluster of stars sits high and bright in our winter skies. Te Ihi references the energy and passion stirred by the Matariki cluster and the promise they herald. We honour our ancestors in a heart-warming ceremony known as Te Ahi Taitai (fire ceremony), before welcoming guests into the Tawa forest canopy. Enjoy seasonal forest canapes which may include steaming pork and watercress broth, smoked snapper and potato croquettes, hearty mussel chowder, and hot kumara parcels. Matariki celebrations then move to the meeting house where song, haka, storytelling, and performance become central. A torchlit walk leads into a cosy dining room and a three-course sharing feast with chef aperitif. Our famous hāngī shares a table with Māori fusion dishes developed and curated by acclaimed Māori chefs.

We welcome guests of all ages and the facility is wheelchair and buggy accessible. Special dietary options are available, please advise at the time of booking.
